Throughout the 90s and early 2000s he continued to move from team to team, helping secure various championships and awards. Then in 2001, he signed a large contract (3.5 million pounds) with England’s Southampton. However, injuries kept him from playing more than a few games. He moved to Barcelona SC in 2005. Delgado announced his retirement in 2011. For his efforts in professional soccer, Delgado has received a number of awards: two with Barcelona, one with El Nacional, one with UNAM, two with LDU Quito, and the Canada Cup for 1999. He played for Ecuador at the time and helped advance the team through the tournament.
