In 2005 Mansueto purchased the financial magazines Fast Company and Inc. By 2008 he owned more than 60% of common stock in Morningstar. He invested in Wrapports which purchased the Chicago Sun-Times in 2011. Joe owned a stake in Time Out Chicago magazine which he sold in 2013. Joe married Rika Yoshida in 1988. The couple pledged $25 million for the expansion of the University of Chicago library in 2008. The couple has three children together. In 2011 Mansueto gained inclusion on the Forbes World’s Billionaires list.
